Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia

1. What is Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia?

Disorder of the heart muscle characterized pathologically by replacement of the right ventricular myocardium with fatty or fibrous fatty tissue

2. Characteristics of Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia
Progressive fibrofatty replacement of RV
– Cause of sudden cardiac death in younger patient
– Familial history in about 50%

3. MRI findings
– RV motion abnormality
– RV dilatation
– RV wall thinning
Delayed enhancement on RV wall
focal fat infiltration in normal myocardium

4. MRI major criteria
– Regional RV akinesia or dyskinesia
– Dyssynchronous RV contraction (scalloped appearance of RV wall)
– RVEDV / BSA (ratio) > 110 (100 in female)
– RVEF < 40%
