Superficial siderosis resulting from chronic recurrent SAH

Superficial siderosis

Superficial siderosis is a rare neurological condition that is characterized by the accumulation of iron in the brain’s surface layers, specifically in the subarachnoid space. The condition is caused by the continuous leakage of iron-containing fluids into the subarachnoid space, typically from a ruptured aneurysm or other type of bleeding in the brain.

    • T2*(GRE, SWI) is most sensitive to hemosiderin deposition
    • Hypointense rim on T2 or T2* GRE MR images
    • CN8 often appears darker, thicker than normal
