Lipoblastoma (Pediatrics)

  • Lipoblastoma is an uncommon benign adipocytic tumor of infant and early childhood.
  • It accounts for approximately 30% of adipocytic tumors in children.
  • It is usually diagnosed within the first 3 years of life and only rarely seen over the age of 8 years.
  • The treatment of choice is wide surgical excision
  • Imaging finding
    • USG
      Lipoblastoma more often appears as relatively homogeneous hyperechoic mass.
    • MR
      Well-lobulated masses with high signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted images reflecting high-fat content.
      Liposarcoma is hardly differentiated from lipoblastoma, but liposarcoma is extremely rare in children.

Lipoblastoma (F/2) well defined about 2.3 cm heterogenous fat containing mass at Lt. paranasal area without evidence bone destruction.
Note the signal of mass is suppressed on fat saturation sequence.
